Northern Style Decorating
Here are four regional, traditional table decorations
that might help you decorate with your region of the country in mind. Since America is all about diversity
in our culture, let's celebrate with that in mind too. Here we've taken Colonial Williamsburg as the
inspiration for this northern table setting. It is as fresh as a forest, and celebrates the beauty of
northern USA with an assortment of pine tree branches and twigs, pinecones and the feeling of snow. Add
fruits, nuts and vegetation. I much prefer this natural setting to the 21st century bombardment of
blinking lights and rock 'n roll Santas. Our color scheme is green and white with brown accents, to
simulate a wintry day. Spray the centerpiece fruit with white paint and add some fake snow. Add a green
tablecloth, snowy white napkins, green and white dishes. You can get spray snow at your craft store. Add
your white candles in copper candleholders to complete the look. Beautiful!
Southern Style Decorating
Twin topiaries made with kumquats and lemon leaves
make a fantastic and dramatic centerpiece. It's the south, and a warmer climate, so the lighter
more spring-like decorations are right at home here. Use white linens and blue-and-white dishes,
complemented by simple, clear glassware. Included in these decorations are: kumquats, lemons,
lemon leaves, limes, dried sheet moss, cachepots of blue and white, stainless or silver flatware.
White candles, simply done, add the finishing touch.
Eastern Style Decorating
When you live on the east coast, you're constantly
reminded of our great country's history: battlefields, stone walls, old churches, along with all the
ties to Europe and Great Britain. This naturally calls for a more formal holiday table, with an elegant
red, gold and white color scheme. Here you'll find red damask, white porcelain and glimmering gold
accent pieces. These go perfectly with baskets of red grapes, apples and plums. At each place setting
are small bouquets of red roses which adds a personal touch. To be invited to this elegant table, one
must receive a formal invitation in deep red with a rich, baroque gold script.
Western Style Decorating
Now we've come to my part of the country - the
western states. We are so diverse on the West Coast, with our deserts, mountains and semi-tropical
climate and topography. Just look at our produce to get ideas for a western table setting. Here the
pineapple takes center stage. It's historically a symbol of hospitality anyway. Miniature pineapples
repeat the theme, surrounded by boxwood greenery in decorative baskets. We're all about being casual
on the West Coast. Use a green tablecloth, green and white plates, white napkins. Antique gold
candlelabra with off-white candles complete the decor, and help graduate the height of the tall pineapple
in the middle to the flatware.
But don't stop here. I've just created an amazingly simple way to learn everything you really need to
know about decorating for your holiday parties - or any party, for that matter. Learn the proper table
settings for the USA and International Settings as well. Learn about glassware and flatware, how to fold
napkins, creating beautiful table bouquets, see an assortment of table decorations, learn about table
etiquette, get tons of help to stimulate conversation at a dinner party, or any function, and there's
much, much more. For details on how to host a great party, or just attend one and have great fun,
