Easily Make Your House a Home
As our lives get busier and busier, it's nice to know there are some simple things we can change or update that can make a huge difference in how we feel about
our homes. Inexpensive, quick, easy. That's the secret.
I recently had my home repainted. Naturally when you put on a fresh coat of paint, other elements look older and less attractive. Like outdoor lights.
A trip to Home Depot gave me a nice selection of lights that would complement my home's style. New lights will bring a gleam to your home by day and a nice glow
at night. Save money by only buying the largest light for the front door. Step down in size for the balcony and back doors. For the largest selection, look
online, but local places to shop include Home Depot, Lowes, Osh's and the Great Indoors.
painting, you don't have to do any faux finishes to make your
home look good. Just a fresh coat, say in a different color that blends, is enough. Semi-gloss or satin will give the walls a bit of a shine. Find a partner to
help you. It makes it more fun and also speeds up the time.
Trade off jobs. One can be masking off the ceiling while the other person is doing the baseboards. Be sure to get the fluffy rollers. They absorb alot of paint
and help you apply the paint quickly, easily and evenly. Use brushes for all the small areas and detailed work.
Buy yourself a tool belt. You'd be amazed at how much time you can save by not having to search for that hammer or screwdriver, scissors or tape.
When I think of all the wasted effort having to climb back down the ladder to find a tool, I get weary. It's also more safe to keep your tools up off the floor
and within easy reach.
There are some great looking faucets out there now, many of which are reminders of
olden days. You can get the old fashioned look back for the bathroom and the kitchen. I love the old fashioned look myself. My husband installed one like this
in my bathroom and we have one with the extra tall adjustable spout in the kitchen. It makes rinses off the dishes much easier and looks great.
If you don't want to install the fixtures yourself, hire a plumber. If you buy the fixtures at a local store, they will usually have plumbers already on
call to serve your installation needs. Watch out if you're living in an older home where the faucets have been in place for a long time. You may have corroded
pipes that need to be cut off with a grinder. A professional can handle this with no problem, but it's probably no best for an amateur to try to do.
