Outdoor Decorating Tips: Quick and Easy Garden Decorating
As lovely as your garden might be by the vegetation, you can enhance it even more by adding ornaments - man-made items that provide just the right adornment
to a particular garden setting.
Even sophisticated societies tell the time by looking at sundials. Today sundials are generally just ornamental, but they will create smiles and curiosity
in your garden, as well as adding a timeless touch. Sundials are usually made of iron, or iron and stone, and will be rather heavy. You can put them on a pedestal or
lay them right on the ground. You just need to make sure they have full sun all day long.
By using them correctly, garden ornaments can be the perfect touch to highlight certain sections of your garden. Consider the following additional ideas.
One of the most rewarding sights is butterflies, hummingbirds or other beautiful creatures that come to take advantage of what you have created. While
a little less popular, bees should also be welcome guests for their pollinating benefits.
But few signts may be sweeter than watching a bird taking a bath in your birdbath. If you place a bird feeder in your garden, make sure it is heavy so
it doesn't topple over in the wind. Most feeders are made of iron or cast cement. The average height is 30-36 inches.
I have a hummingbird that comes by regularly, enjoying the blossoms and foliage in my garden. If your feeder has a perch, you might get a hummingbird
to stop long enough to get a good look at it. Their wings move at 53 times per second.
Another great addition to a garden is a fountain. Now-a-days fountains can
be as large as you want them, permanent or portable.
Large fountains usually need you to bury an electrical line to run the pump. You won't likely need a water line as most fountains merely recirculate the
water already existing in the fountain. Most fountains are ready to plug in and operate instantly once you have an electrical plug ready. Can you imagine how
relaxing it would be to hear the sounds of a water fountain while you're outdoors?
Sculptures or statues are also a welcome sight to a garden. Many sculptures have a religious significance and others will relate to various themes.
Choose what you want consistent with the look and feeling of the garden. Don't make them the focus of the garden. Remember they are just accents.
Then there are always the favourites: wind ornaments, such as chimes and whirlygigs and mobiles. These can add sound and a playful element to
your outdoor ambience. Whirlygigs move in the wind but without noise, whereas chimes make a tinkle or gonging sound depending on the size and type of wood
or metal used. If your garden tends to get high winds much of the time, you may find a whirlygig a better choice.
