The Traditional Style
Traditional Decorating Schemes to Consider
Most people love a canopy bed, and this bed in white
and brass is Victorian and summery in feeling. The emerald-green rug underfoot coordinates
well with lemon-yellow walls and gaily colored striped and flowered sheets. It's very feminine and
inviting. Extra pillows soften the bed. The palm in the corner fills the space and adds an additional
light and airy feeling to the look.
Don't be afraid of using color, if you really like it. But watch out for bold and bright colors. They tend to make the room feel a bit
smaller. Soft pale, muted colors allow you to add color without drawing too much attention away from the furnishings in the room.
Jazzing up a streamlined kitchen with flooring
resembling Spanish tiles adds the perfect amount of texture to this traditional kitchen. Functional
yet uncluttered.
Notice how the kitchen looks even lovelier by the use of well placed, healthy plants. Bring a bit of the outdoors into your rooms with
live plants. Just make sure they are healthy. Nothing will ruin the effect more quickly than a half dead, spindley plant.
Chinese lamps and a collection of duck decoys
feel right at home with this traditional tufted leather sofa. Leather is so perfect for the traditional style, particularly in a
den or family room. The dark palette invites one to sit and
relax with a cup of coffee and a good book in this popular traditional setting.
Asian furnishings, particularly ornate ones, look right at home in the traditional style, because they are considered traditional.
Asian furnishings make the perfect compliment to western style furnishings and make a room look far more interesting. I have successfully
mixed styles from all over the globe in my home. You can too.
Dark hunter green is used
as the background color in this English country living room. Traditional mantel piece, crystal wall
brackets and colorful furnishings complete the look.
